What Cause Hip Pain While Sleeping

joint pain, inflammation, and arthritis.

Pain in the hip can disturb your sleep. Stiffness of the muscles, inactivity, overwork, inflammation, and arthritis are what cause hip pain while sleeping.

Hip pain causes are backed up by stiffness of the muscles, strains and sprains, joint pain, inflammation, and arthritis.

We all love a good night’s sleep, don’t we? Whether you have spent your day relaxing or working hard, a full night of peaceful and restful sleep is essential for an elevated mood, emotional wellbeing, and overall health.

When you sleep at night, your body regenerates itself; it recharges your body with energy. But have you ever experienced pain in or around the hip that made sleeping hard for you? When talking about nighttime rest, sometimes you might have experienced hip pain, which can disturb your nighttime routine, often causing sleep uncomfortable.

We employ one-third of our life sleeping which is why good sleep is essential. However, some people are bereft of a good night’s sleep due to pain around their hips. As a pharmacist, I deal with so many people every day complaining about hip pain. Over 70 million people in the United States alone report different forms of pain, including hip pain.

From the conversation I had with my patients, pain can have different signs or indications. Try to identify if you have any of these:

You have poor sleep at night and then wake up in the morning with more hip pain

You doze off and then wake up in a twisted position with troubling increasing pain.

It’s your bedtime, and you have mild pain from day’s work when you lay down to sleep.

When in bed, you feel anxious and stressed

If you have any or all of these symptoms, you try to find a comfortable sleeping position but often cannot. Perhaps there is a pain in your lower back, knee, or neck.

Common Causes of Hip Pain

Common Causes of Hip Pain

Your body has a skeletal framework that is covered by muscles. It comprises bones, joints, muscles, cartilage, ligaments, tendons, and connective tissues. This framework runs in your entire body, and thus you may have pain anywhere in the body - from muscles to your joints.

That said, the primarily affected parts are your shoulder, back, lower back, neck, knee, and hip. The most common hip pain causes include:

  • Strains and sprains
  • Injuries to your muscles, ligaments, and tendons
  • Injuries and accidents
  • Sprains or strains from any jarring movement, sudden slips and falls, or any sports injuries
  • Overuse or lack of movement
  • Bad posture, lifting a heavy object incorrectly, or complete lack of physical activity
  • Arthritis
  • Wear and tear of the joints, especially the joints near your hips. Arthritis is the inflammation of the tiny sacs that gives lubrication to the joints.
